While I’m a huge fan of the plums, corals, navy blues, and olive greens, there is one hue that I’ve been a life long fan of: pink. Call me Elle Woods if you must, but pink has been one of my favorite colors since ’93. Conveniently enough, pink lipsticks, balms, eye shadows, blushers, and nail polish in various shades of pink have been trending from the runways to Instagram posts. Used appropriately (and not all at one time), beauty products of the pinkish hue variety are the perfect way to add a pop of color in your life.
Baby pink with blue undertones and hot pink (almost coral) are two of my favorite shades to wear. In order to avoid looking like Jennifer Garner in 13 Going on 30 when she’s getting ready for the Poise party, be sure when wearing pink tones to keep the rest of your makeup simple and neutral.
Here are a few of the ways I like to wear pink beauty products:
1. Eyeshadow: Sweep a rosy-pink shade of slightly shimmery eyeshadow (Gingham Girl choice: Girlie by MAC) across your lid. Use a smudgy brown liner to make a thin line around your upper lids and a black-brown, lengthening mascara on your lashes.
2. Blush: I love wearing light pink blush on the apples of my cheeks (Gingham Girl choice: Benefit Dandelion). I pair it with a highlighter on my cheek bones to create a fresh faced look.
3. Lipstick: My favorite way to “Think Pink.” Statement lipsticks have been a major trend and from time to time, I love wearing a pink lip. Whether it’s electric pink or bubblegum (Gingham Girl choices: Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boheme, Revlon Color Burst Matte Balm in Unapologetic, Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Lollipop, and Nars Sheer Lipstick in Roman Holiday), sweep a layer or two on and your lips instantly make a statement. If you’re not quite ready to wear electric shades of a girly-girl color, try wearing a rosy-pink lip balm (Gingham Girl choices: Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Hibiscus and Fresh Sugar Rose Lip Balm).
4. Nail Polish: Call me a sucker for clean packaging and matte shades, Essie is my number one go-to for nail polish. As opposed to the other categories, my taste in nail polish ranges is a bit more conservative. I usually go for p (Gingham Girl Choices: Essie in Need a Vacation and Essie in Ballet Slippers)
